"The Golden Bough, A Fairytale Ballet for Children"

Scene 5

The time passers find a mysterious object... Time passes...

Summer comes, and with it, the end of school. The girl sits sadly under the tree with the golden bough because her best friend is away. Even the consoling dryads cannot cheer her. The golden bird appears, and seeing her loneliness, says, "Because you released me from my cage and saved me from the snowstorm and the monsters, I will give you the gift of friends!" It flies off, but soon returns, bringing friends from the village. To her surprise, even her best friend has suddenly returned! Soon the entire village is dancing!

Epilogue

As evening falls and the moon comes out, the little girl marvels at the beauty of the summer evening and feels truly fortunate for her happiness. Dryads carrying fairy lanterns appear. Flower spirits enter the glade. Fireflies twinkle in the night, and the little girl discovers a miracle has occured: astonishingly, the tree with the golden bough has changed completely to gold! Then, the little girl notices that something is written on the bough where the empty cage still hangs: "C-O-M-P-A-S-S-I-O-N," she reads, and runs her fingers over the letters that have been etched there, while the golden bird dances joyfully in the moonlight.
